The Popularity Of Wood Railings

In this article you will learn about the advantages of wood railings for inside and outside of your home. Wood railings will make any home look more inviting and welcoming.

Wood railings are a very popular choice for most homeowners. Learning more about the installation and care of wood railings is necessary before you make your final decision. This article will give you some hints to help make your wood railings last for many years.

Wood Railings Inside Your Home

Wood railings offer character and elegance like no other material does. It is beautiful and inviting inside and outside of the home. By adding wooden railings to your home, you will find that wood can give you a serene and tranquil feeling, simply because it is a more natural material. Using them indoors can add a touch of sophistication and welcomeness that you just won?t find with other materials.

Wood Railing Benefits

Wood railings can offer you many benefits over other materials that are available for railings. Here are a few of them.

1. Wood has natural beauty that is hard to find in another material.

2. Wood railings are maintenance free when used indoors. By polishing and lacquering them during installation, you will find that they do not need any further maintenance.

3. Wood will last for many years, as evidenced by many period styled homes around the country.

4. Due to the wide width of the railing, children will have fun sliding down the rails. This is a great deal of fun for kids of all ages!

Wood Choices

There are many different wood varieties that you can find for your railings. These wood varieties include Red Oak, White Oak, Cherry, Mahogany, Cherry, Poplar, Maple, Beech, Burma teak, Cedar, Yellow Pine, or Ash. Manufacturers are able to work with you to help you create any style of railing that you want by using hand artistry, CNC machinery, and CAD systems. You will be able to have balusters or newel posts created into your exact specifications.

Wood Railings Care

Very little maintenance will be needed if you take proper care of your wood railings. Wood railings are particularly susceptible to microorganisms and water. By treating wood with chemicals that kill microorganisms, then you are protecting the wood from this particular type of danger. Water can be kept away from the wood by treating it and covering it with a lacquer or other coating. By cleaning your wood railings on a regular basis and waxing when needed, you will find that you can keep your wood railings look beautiful for a long time.

Take Caution With Wire

If you are trying to do something on your own in terms of home improvement you may find things to be a lot of trial and error.

But if you have electrical problems and realize that you need to undertake electrical projects to fix the issues in your home you can?t risk doing them by trial and error. You need to get them done right the first time. You should make sure you follow some of these hints to do things right the first time.

First of all you might need to get a permit to tamper with wire or do other things in your home from your local electrical authority. You should know that some states require permits to do certain things. Check these out for example:

You may need a permit to alter your wiring.

You may need a permit to put in more wiring in your home or to install an electrical light fixture, a garage-door receptacle, or to convert a fuse box to circuit breakers.

You may need a permit to change a low-voltage system like an alarm or a computer system.

These permit laws change a lot depending on your state so you need to make sure you don?t need a permit to do certain things to your home.

You should always turn off the electrical power at the source through the circuit breaker before beginning work on your project. You will want to do this because even if you flip a wall switch you could still have a live appliance or the socket could still be live. Do not trust the distribution panels that show which circuit is connected to which breaker. It is better to be safe than sorry.

You should make sure the circuit is dead by using a voltage tester first. You can use the assistance of someone to help you to test the circuit breaker and the fuse box and not have to run back and forth the entire time. You?ll want to tape the circuit breaker into the off spot so that no one tries to turn it back on while you work. You should not turn the power on until you are finished with everything.

You can turn off a switch, you can not turn off the wires that are going into the electrical distribution panel from the outside. You should not fool around with thee wires and do not go anywhere near them if you have metal with you. If you think there is a problem with these wires you?ll need to call your electric company.

Make sure not to stand in any water or on a damp floor because you could get shocked. Put a rubber mat on the ground if there is water around or if the floor is wet. You should always wear dry clothe and shoes. Call a pro if you are concerned about anything related to safety.

Safety Steps In Electrical Wire Repairs

Homeowners often face many do-it-yourself projects and many of those projects are trial and error. However, electrical repairs and/or projects should not fall under the category of trial and error. Before beginning an electrical repair project, follow the steps below to ensure a safe, successful result.

First, confirm that you are permitted to do electrical work on your own home. The Oregon Department of Business and Consumer Services (ODBCS) indicates that homeowners do not need a permit to replace electrical devices or perform maintenance on an existing electrical installation, but a permit is required in some instances. According to the ODBCS, you need a permit to install or modify any permanent wiring or electrical device, run additional wiring, put in an electrical outlet or light fixture, install or modify low-voltage systems such as security alarms or stereo systems, install a receptacle for a garage-door opener or convert to circuit breakers. Of course, the law varies from state to state. Be sure to check with your local office to confirm whether or not you need a permit.

Secondly, off all electrical power through the circuit breaker. Flipping a switch off is not enough. The socket or appliance will remain live. Many circuit breakers have diagrams detailing with circuit is connected which breaker, but be sure to check for yourself. You can do this by using a voltage tester. Someone assisting you is also helpful and prevents the need to run back and forth to test the circuit. Always tape the circuit breaker into the off position to avoid anyone restoring power while you are working. Finally, remember that the main wires entering the electrical panel from the outside cannot be turned off. For this reason, do not touch the wires or go near them with anything made of metal. If you suspect the electrical problems are with these wires, contact the power company. Do not try to find the problem on your own.

Third, standing in water or on a damp floor could result in a life-threatening shock. If there is water on the floor, place a rubber mat on the floor to stand on. Also, be sure you are wearing dry clothes. If you are not sure if the area is safe, call a professional. One call could save you from a dangerous shock.

Fourth, remember that metal is bad and rubber is good. If you touch metal and a live wire at the same time, your body carries a current from one to the other. Running a current through your body is, obviously, not healthy nor is it pleasant experience. However, rubber is a nonconductive material and actually insulates against electricity. Use tools with rubber or plastic coated handles and wear shoes with rubber soles.

Finally, test your work once you are finished. Turn the circuit breakers on to return electrical power to the area, and use a voltage tester to check if the appropriate amount of electricity is running. The amount required varies by the size of the appliance.

The Magic Of Mantels And Fireplaces

Sitting around the fireplace on a cold winter's night is simply magical. The roaring fire helps take the chill out of the room while creating a special ambience. For many years, fireplaces have provided warmth and, for years before that, a place to cook as well. They have never lost their popularity and, in fact, have made substantial gains. In my lifetime, fireplaces have been marching southward where winters are short and summers are long. And although the latest advances have been made in climate control for our homes, fireplaces continue to be in style.

I suspect you?ll agree that with the advances in climate control the purpose of the fireplace has markedly changed. It?s definitely not about simply warming your the home. Nor is it about cooking. Stoves have been around for some time. So why do we have this ever growing love for fireplaces? My guess is that fireplaces provide that special ambience when they?re lit. And when they are not lit they continue to add interest and focus and character to a room. Should I add ?charm? as well? It would seem that fireplaces, and the mantels that frame them, have been, for some time, one of the distinct architectural elements that enhance the flavor of our homes much like embellished stairways, arched entry ways, or ornamental range hoods. In these examples, there is a wonderful marriage (in many cases) of function and art.

?Wonderful marriage? has to be qualified because not all ?marriages of art and function are happy, wonderful marriages. I recently had the opportunity to walk through home that was probably 80 percent completed and saw some pretty awful ?marriages?. There was a kitchen island that had incredibly large ornate corbels supporting the counter top. The fireplace had oversized stone columns supporting the mantel shelf. The most gracious think that could be said is:?More is not necessarily better?. Thankfully, there are many beautiful examples of form and function-just not in that home.

Over the years millworks suppliers have specialized in mantels shelves and surrounds. Cabinet makers, in my area, have become adept at building mantels. (Need is always jogging ahead of supply). And since the ?media? of cabinet makers is wood, most mantels are made of wood-which is fine with me since wood is my ?media?. Thick wooden slabs, under laid with crown mold supported by ornate corbels and fluted legs are a common style for many cabinet makers. Not so common are the hand carved variety still made available by artisan carvers in foreign lands. The beauty of these carved masterpieces is unmatched by the latest 21st century technological marvels. The slight variations and minor imperfections are a signature that says ?hand carved? and adds a special charm and unique quality. Mass production methodology will, in my humble opinion, never match the techniques of the masters. Carvers can undercut and form sharp interior cuts that are presently not possible with CNC tooling.

The question has to be asked, ?What would a fireplace be without a mantel?? The mantel serves to draw the eye in, to focus ones attention. It adds interest to a room. Keepsakes and family pictures are shelved there. The fireplace a mantel is a marriage in itself-sort of a marriage within a marriage-(if you?re keeping up with my analogies). Without a doubt they will increase the value of a room and so a home.

Corbels - Modern Uses And What To Look For

Corbels, as an architectural element, have been around for hundreds of years. Their popularity has not diminished but has, in fact, increased over time. The word ?corbel? comes from the French word for raven presumably because of its ?beak? like projection. Originally corbels were used as a structural component bearing a load. They were typically made of stone (though old timber corbels abound) and are still in many places supporting balconies, parapets and arches. Some of the finest examples of corbels can be seen in old Europe. The wooden variety of corbels exists in many timber frame structures especially in England. Often ornately carved, corbels were used to embellish window sills and to support oriel windows ? a form of bay window that does not reach the ground. Corbel ?tables? can also be viewed on older buildings. A corbel table, mostly ornamental, is a row of corbels supporting a protruding wall or a masonry strip. Another type of Corbel is an ?Ancone?. Greek for ?elbow? or ?hollow?, the Ancone is a scroll shape that provided the same function as the corbel.

Presently, the use of corbels has become more of a decorative embellishment in today?s modern home. Though there may be some structural purpose, their function for the most part is aesthetical. The stone corbels of yesteryear have been supplanted by their wooden counterparts. Historically, the ornamentation in corbels was patterned after Greek columns and capitals or in some cases animals or other whimsical creatures. Many examples of modern corbels follow this same historical ornamentation. The craftsman era, though, produced a plainer variety sometimes called a bracket.

Modern uses of the corbel include kitchen counter overhangs, range hoods, fireplace mantel surrounds and mantel shelves as well as spicing up cabinetry in the kitchen or elsewhere. The contemporary popularity of the corbel is certainly due to the added embellishment to otherwise plain cabinetry and millwork. That?s not to say that the effect cannot be overdone. Just like any other design feature, corbels can ruin a room as well as ?make? a room. The quality of the corbels can have the same effect. Poorly crafted pieces are as evident as well executed corbels.

The manufacturing process, like anything else, has an impact on the look and feel of the piece. Carving machines and CNC technology, though efficient and fast, create a piece that look massed produced. The routers used in these two methods cannot replicate the beauty and ?signature? of a well executed hand-carved corbel. Even a casual observer should be able to tell the difference. The hand caved corbel will not be perfect, to be sure, but that is part of ?romance? that makes this method superior to mass production. A hand-carved corbel will likely cost more but for most the price is not out of reach because most hand carved work is coming from overseas where wages are still lower than in the US. As designers, builders and architects we still have access to affordable, genuinely hand-carved corbels and as such can adorn our living spaces with them.

Remodeling Your Entertainment Area

So, you?ve gotten yourself into a new HDTV so that you?re entertainment life at home will change. Well, now you?re also going to have to change some of your decorating, including a new TV stand to accommodate for the bigger set.

Now that the new HDTV sets are bigger, heavier, and a bit pricier, you have to go that extra effort in remodeling your home for these new toys. However, if forking over a few hundred bucks for a stand is beyond your intentions, there are some alternatives for you to consider.

You can go ahead and grab a steel kit for about $100 bucks. These are strong kits that come in many sizes, and you can construct it in about an hour, even if you?re not a professional handyman, or even a mediocre one at that. Usually, these will hold the TV, a DVD player, and a cable box. A lot of times the newer HDTV sets are equipped with a slot for a cable card, which eliminates the need for a separate, external box.

Stands will typically hold about 200 pounds quite easily, and this is sufficient for most models of TV?s. If you?re more into the modern look, some stands come with stylish glass shelving for all three devices, the TV, DVD player, and cable box. If you?re looking for a clear shelf for the TV itself, you?ll need to get strong acrylic or Plexiglass to hold it. This is a bit more expensive, but also a lot safer.

Another idea is to build your own stand out of wood. You can find tons of plans for this for free online. Here?s one style that you might consider, which has list of cheaper parts.

Go out and buy two ninety centimeter by sixty centimeter (3 ft x 2 ft) planks of cedar wood, 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) thick. Cedar is naturally beautiful and doesn't need staining, even though you can use a semi-transparent stain if you like to finish the wood.

Use a saw and, starting at the bottom, cut a curved pattern. Go for a shape similar to a folk guitar. The curve makes for a great design and will add strength for support. Now you need to sand the edges smooth.

Next, groove the wood a centimeter and a quarter (half an inch) deep, more than a few centimeters (a few inches) from the top. These are what?s known as 'dadoes'. Now you?ll make additional grooves for shelves that will hold the DVD, etc. You can make the grooves the old-fashioned way with a gouging tool or with a router.

Buy the shelves at the width you need for your TV. Wood is probably best and cheapest. Simply slide the shelves in, then screw in four L-shaped supports below each shelf for added support. Basically, that?s all there is to it. Now you can hide the wires using tape or by adding an extra compartment if necessary.

Building your own stand is definitely the way to go if you?re looking to get one on the cheap, as well as one that is customized best to your liking.

An Introduction to Rotary Hot Stamping

Hot stamping is a process for transferring a dry film to a substrate through heat and pressure. This requires the following basic components:

Main Components of the Hot Stamping Process:

ANVIL Usually made of a hard rubber or phenolic. The anvil must be hard enough to resist cupping under the load of the die, soft enough to protect the die from irregularities in the substrate, and resilient enough not to take a set through repeated pounding.

SUBSTRATE A wide variety of substrates are suitable for the hot stamping process. Surface tension of the substrate has the same affect on hot stamping as it does on printing. In addition to surface tension, the porosity of the material has a profound affect on stamping speed. A dry material will tend to cool the foil before it gets a chance to adhere properly. The resulting stamp will show a mottled surface similar to how ink looks on such a material. As a rule of thumb, a material that prints well will also stamp well.

ROLL LEAF Also known as Foil Roll leaf is the ink of a hot stamping operation. It is made up of a carrier with a series of coatings to be transferred. The carrier is made from polyester film that can range from just under 0.0005? to about 0.0015?. The thinner the carrier, all other things being equal, the faster the foil will transfer.

The first layer applied to the carrier is a thin release coat. This layer affects whether or not a foil is suitable for fine copy or heavy coverage and affects the ?cutting? properties of the foil.

The second layer called the ?tie? or ?color? coat serves dual purposes in a roll leaf product. The first function of this layer is to provide a hard abrasion resistant surface to the foil when applied. At 1.2-1.5 microns the tie coat makes up about 30% of the transferred product. Since the metallic layer is always made from aluminum, a tint is required to make a gold or other colored metallic . This tint is the second function of the tie coat.

Under the tie coat is a vacuum deposited aluminum layer. This is the most opaque layer in the construction even though it is only 0.02-0.05 microns thick. This layer has no structural integrity of its own.

The final layer in the foil construction is the sizing. This is a heat-activated adhesive that glues the foil image to the substrate. At 1.5-3 microns this layer makes up 50-70% of the transferred product. A thin layer of sizing cuts cleanest and tends to work best on films or high gloss materials. Heavily sized products do a better job of filling a more porous substrate.

HOT STAMPING DIE The hot stamp die is an engraved plate where the non-printing areas are relieved. It is important that the material used holds as much thermal energy as possible at the surface. Copper alloys excel in this area and are used almost exclusively in rotary applications where dwell times are extremely short. There are two primary methods of engraving hot stamp tooling.

The original method is photoengraving. In this process the image is transferred via a photographic negative. The unwanted metal is then etched away by a strong acid. The process is very similar to printed circuit board production. The advantage of photoengraving is that as the complexity and scale of the image increases the cost remains more or less fixed. The disadvantage is that as image complexity decreases the cost remains more or less fixed. Photoengraving is a high overhead process that excels in producing complex images.

A more recent method of producing hot stamp tooling is CNC engraving. In this process the image is taken in an electronic format and specialized software generates tool paths that remove the unwanted material. The advantage of CNC engraving is that simple images can be produced very efficiently. As the quantity and complexity of the image increases the cost increases proportionately. CNC engraving is a low overhead operation that most efficiently produces less complex images.

HEAT + PRESURE + TIME = FOIL TRANSFER.

Foil is transferred to the substrate when a heated die forces the foil onto the substrate against the anvil. The die must be hot enough to activate the adhesive (sizing) on the back of the roll leaf and adhere it to the substrate. The die also performs the very important function of cutting the foil all around the perimeter of the detail being transferred. Without this cutting action the foil will bridge across any small reverses in the copy.

ROTARY HOT STAMPING The information provided up to this point is general and applies to both rotary and flat bed hot stamping. In rotary hot stamping the time element in our transfer formula becomes an inverse function of press speed. Since the contact point between two rollers is theoretically a line this time function becomes very short. A good point of reference is that at 100 FPM 0.020? of material goes by in one millisecond, it takes about 75-100 millisecond to blink your eye.

This extremely short dwell time explains why porous materials prove difficult to process rotary. As the top fibers cool the sizing, the foil solidifies on top of the material before it can creep down into the fiber. The dwell time that allows a flat bed system to force the foil down into the substrate also allows heat to move laterally through the film. This causes the foil to release or "bridge" across fine reverse details. Thus, short dwell time is also the reason rotary hot stamping is able to produce a greater level of detail than the best flat bed equipment.

ROTARY HOT STAMP EQUIPMENT For a rotary hot stamping system to operate it must perform two basic functions. First it must maintain the desired temperature of the die. Second it must hold the die securely in position to produce even depth of impression through heavy and light coverage regions of the die.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL Temperature control of rotary hot stamp systems is achieved by one of two methods. Most common is internal electric. This can be used with or without cooling. The second is hot oil. While inherently more accurate, hot oil also adds a dangerous component.

IMPRESSION CONTROL The second task of any rotary hot stamping system is that it maintains an even depth of impression. The main problem with this is that the heated die must also be taken off of impression when the web is stationary. The original hot stamp units used a pneumatic bridge to achieve this. After time the shortcomings of this system became obvious. First, the amount of lift-off was limited by the gearing. This was a particular problem on 32dp gearing where the small teeth limited throw off to approximately 0.030?. Second, any variation in line pressure would affect the impression.

The next generation of impression control utilized a cam over center type mechanism where the die remained stationary and the impression roll rotates up to meet it. This system uses air pressure to make and break the impression but will hold its impression regardless of available air pressure. While this approach was a great improvement it is still limited to webs 10? and less. The problem with going to wider webs is that as solid as the base roll may be, by applying pressure to the bearing blocks rather than die bearers allows to much flexing in the die shaft assembly to achieve good speeds on wider webs.

The key to achieving high speeds on wider webs is in making the hot stamping system follow the same principles of operation as a cutting die. It has been a long time since applying pressure to the bearing blocks in a die cutting operation was an accepted practice. The latest designs have addressed this issue by adding steel bearers to the hot stamp die. With this design the die and anvil are sandwiched between the lower anvil roll and an assist roll where pressure can be set and monitored. With the die locked tightly in the station the anvil is adjusted independently to meet the die.

An Anti-Aging Cooking Tip For The Holidays

I figured with the holiday season in full swing there is no better time to share an advanced cooking tip with you.

Here is a virtually unknown anti-aging cooking secret. Have you ever heard the term 'Glycation?' Glycation is a process that causes sugar to bind to collagen and ultimately cause wrinkles and deep lines in your face and loss of skin elasticity. Ouch! When you brown your foods by cooking them too long, this browning effect is the result of Glycation. A study revealed that eating foods cooked at very high temperatures may increase the rate at which you age.

According to this study, ingestion of high-temperature cooked foods causes chronic inflammation and the formation of free-radicals in your body. And while we are on the subject of 'Glycation,' I want you to know that High-Glycemic foods ALSO cause Glycation. High Glycemic foods cause sudden spikes in your sugar (Glucose) levels which in turn increases insulin and inflammation within your body.

This then produces Glycation and creates those nasty free radicals in your body which are directly tied to aging and age related illnesses. Free radicals are kind of like 'rust' in your body. Cut open an apple and leave it on the table for about 10 minutes or so and watch how brown it gets... That is free radical build up. You hear a lot of buzz these days about the 'Glycemic Index' or how you need to eat foods that have a 'Low Glycemic Index.'

Now you probably understand why. The Solution: Saute your food whenever possible over medium heat and do not brown your food. I know sometimes food tastes a bit better browned and crispy.

Uh oh, as a matter of fact... I think I may have browned my vegetables tonight. Just don't go overboard and try sauteing or boiling your foods from time to time to mix things up a bit. Moderation, as always.

AND,

Naturally, try to eat foods that have a low Glycemic Index to keep your blood sugar stable which will mean more sustained energy throughout your day, a quicker metabolism so you can burn more fat, and less free radical build up to slow the aging process. Those are some heavy duty '1 Health Tip' benefits for avoiding the Glycation process in your diet.

Do You Take Antibiotics When You Are Sick? This May Shock You

The other day I was reading a report on Antibiotics and it was quite shocking to say the least. I must warn you, what I am about to share with you may anger you quite a bit but the facts are compelling and will save you from a host of health issues later in life.

Pay close attention.

Antibiotics should almost NEVER be taken unless it is a life and death situation. Read that again.

Bold statement, I know, and a tough pill to swallow (no pun intended).

But here are the alarming facts YOU NEED to know. Your long term health depends on it.

Antibiotics are proven to only kill bacteria. They do not kill viruses and a virus is actually what you have when you are sick and go to the Doctor.

Antibiotics destroy bacteria: All bacteria, good and bad.

And thats the problem.

When the good and bad bacteria are destroyed, your cell walls become damaged and some of that bad bacteria gets into your blood and your tissues. The end result is tremendous inflammation within your body along with a breakdown of your immune system making you even more vulnerable to other infections.

This often leads to more infection or more virus.

Have you ever noticed that many times when you are sick, it often takes a few different antibiotics before you are actually better?

Well, breaking news.

9 times out of 10 your body healed itself by then. It wasn't the third or fourth antibiotic you were prescribed that healed you.

Shocking, I know. But these are the facts.

This imbalance that is created in this scenario kills most of the good bacteria. The good bacteria helps to regulate almost EVERY system in your body in one way or another.

The good bacteria is part of your body's natural defense system which helps you to properly breakdown food, digest food and absorb nutrients. They also help to prevent other organisms such as fungus and parasite build up which causes major damage in your body.

The good bacteria is viewed by many experts as the 'gate keepers' of your body's health. The more antibiotics that you consume, the more good bacteria that is killed off.

Not good. And a very big problem.

If you are lactose intolerant (which many people are today) there is an excellent chance you have killed all the good bacteria in your body over time. If you have any other nutritional deficiency it is because the nutrients you are taking into your body are not getting into your cells.

These days, most people do have some form of nutritional deficiency in some way, shape or form and I am seeing more and more pop up all the time in my line of work.

Without enough good bacteria working through your body, bad bacteria begins to take over causing toxicity throughout your body and an imbalance causing the liver, intestines, lungs and kidneys to become overwhelmed with the toxic burden and stop functioning properly.

Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse.

As more an more toxins accumulate due to bad bacteria build up from antibiotic use, your body begins to hold water and you gain weight.

Is it any wonder why there is an obesity epidemic in this country?

Overuse of antibiotics is a huge, virtually unknown contributor to obesity.

If this condition within your body goes on long enough your inflamed, toxic, nutrient starved body will start to waste away and much mores serious health conditions begin to set in that are much more difficult to treat such as liver failure, heart attacks, strokes, blood clotting, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, Candida, hormonal imbalances, neurological problems, skin conditions, asthma, and some forms of cancer.

Quite a dangerous line up to say the least.

Over 100 million doses of antibiotics are handed out each year. Pediatricians prescribe over $500 million worth of antibiotics annually just for one condition alone: ear infections!

Absurd.

Chances are, your Doctor never performed a test to see which antibiotic out of the thousands available would be the most effective for your particular bacterial infection.

Have you ever heard of a test like this?

I know I haven't.

There certainly should be one though.

By now, it should be no surprise that it is now being reported that over 90% of the antibiotics prescribed are not even the right one for YOUR particular bacterial infection.

Thats right.

Even the Center for Disease Control (CDC) which is a Government agency, reports that 60% of antibiotics are totally unnecessary prescriptions.

Doctors normally just prescribe the brand that they know best or the brand that they are given the most money to prescribe.

Its unfortunate, but true. Its all about the money.

Many health authorities are beginning to admit that antibiotics are over prescribed, creating problems that are FAR WORSE than the original condition.

Not a pretty picture.

I am disgusted just writing this. I can imagine how you feel just reading it for the first time.

The Solution:

No need to boycott antibiotics all together. Lets not go to extremes. They can save lives and they will serve their purpose at times but,

It is certainly NO WHERE near the amount of times you think and NO WHERE near the amount of times most Doctors think.

Contrary to popular belief, there is NO NEED to take antibiotics for a cold, flu, ear infection or a soar throat. Thats ridiculous. The side effects explained above are FAR WORSE than the few days you may not feel so well.

Preventing infections in the first place is the key. Take control over YOUR life and YOUR health. No time like the present. You can do this. I am here to help you if you need me.

Don't be so quick to reach for the antibiotic prescription!

I haven't needed to take any form of antibiotic in many years now and in the rare occurrence that I have experienced cold or flu like symptoms, sore throat, etc. I have successfully knocked them out by adding extra high quality nutrients and herbs to my regimen.

Its that simple.

You can do a lot to prevent infections. Much of it involves common sense. Cleanliness matters. Wash your hands several times daily and wash wounds. Grab some of that Aloe Hand Sanitizer at your local drug store. It knocks out all kinds of germs that lead to viruses and it feels pretty cool. Proper hygiene and sanitation are measures we often take for granted.

Dress properly in cold weather, and get adequate rest and sleep. You know the drill.

Reduce your exposure to toxic chemicals, both in food and in the environment. Very tough to do today, I know.

Drink pure water. Definitely don't drink tap water. There is bacteria everywhere in tap water. Throw away your toxic cleaning agents and solvents and look for less toxic, organic alternatives.

Small steps lead to big results in the game of prevention.

A clean, healthy diet is critical and, as usual, the most important of all. Adequate intake of various nutrients in the form of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients is the absolute key!

You must be on a potent antioxidant regimen today to fight viruses and infections. No if, ands, or buts about it!

Fresh, natural, organic foods contain much higher amounts of nutrients than the processed and artificial junk foods so commonly eaten today. Do your best to find meats that are antibiotic-free and hormone-free as well...

Remember, you are what you eat!

You simply HAVE NOT been told the truth about antibiotics. But not anymore. I just told you the truth.

Again, unless it is a life threatening situation, NO antibiotics.

Calcium: The Great Debate And Some Cold Hard Facts

Calcium, as well all know, is the primary mineral within our bones. What many people do not know though is that our bones are living tissue just like the heart, kidneys, liver, etc.

Bones, like the rest of our organs are always losing and replacing cells. When we lose more cells than we replace on a daily basis, the bones become weak, fragile and can easily be broken.

Its pretty common to hear that an elder person or a grandparent fell and broke their hip. The solution, obviously, is more calcium, right? Wrong!

In a study conducted by the University of California - Department of Nutritional Sciences, and reported in the American Journal of Nutrition: Additional calcium, coral calcium or calcium carbonate is NOT the solution to weak or fragile bones (otherwise known as Osteoporosis).

LESS protein is. Huh? How can this be?

Excess protein or high protein diets, which are very common today, actually cause very high 'acid' levels within the body. Sodium is the first mineral that offsets the high acid levels and calcium is the second. Much of our sodium gets lost through our kidneys so calcium bears the bulk of the load.

But, your Doctor tells you to get more calcium so that you will maintain strong bones and ward off Osteoporosis in later years. And what about all those commercials that tell you calcium supplements, calcium carbonate, or coral calcium are the key to strong bones.

Milk is surely the answer to strong bones due to the high calcium count in milk though, right? Not so fast.

While milk does contain a great source of calcium, once it has been pasteurized (all cow milk is pasteurized), the bonds that hold the minerals in place become altered and much of the calcium is lost and unusable. Even cows can't survive on pasteurized milk.

Check out the following study supporting the above:

The American Journal of Nutrition report I mentioned earlier revealed a 95 day study in which researchers monitored 6 individuals and tested the amount of calcium each lost in their urine. They were on a controlled diet that contained high levels of protein and 1400 grams of calcium which is approximately 75% more calcium than the 'Recommended Daily Dietary Allowance' says adults need.

The research found that the more protein these individuals ate, the more calcium they lost. And, additional calcium was not being absorbed into the blood.

Here's what the report said in exact words:

"The consumption of high calcium diets is unlikely to prevent the negative calcium balance and probable bone loss induced by the consumption of high protein diets."

Interesting.

The report also showed that at the rate the subjects were losing calcium, that would equate to about a 4% loss of bone calcium per year. It doesn't sound like a lot but how about over 10 or 15 years?

Finally, the study concluded that unless you cut back on the amount of protein you eat, you are almost guaranteed to develop osteoporosis over time.

[Source - Dr. M. Ted Morter, Jr., M.A,]

Dr. M. Ted Morter, Jr., M.A. reports that he now sees patients in their twenties and thirties showing indications of fragile bones and osteoporosis for the first time ever. He cites that it is due to the rapid change in our dietary practices over the last 30 years or so.

He goes on to say,

"High protein fast foods, convenience foods, preservatives, additives, and meals on the run are all relatively recent innovations. A sixty year old man, his forty year old son, and his twenty year old grandson have all participated in the "new improved" lifestyle for about the same length of time. As a result, each generation has been equally exposed to a long term, high protein diet. Each generation is in equal danger of suffering the consequences of excess protein and inadequate vegetable intake. Daily, each generation is losing an alarming amount of calcium."

[Fell's Health & Wellness Guide ? 2000]

Fascinating!

I must admit, I was quite shocked and surprised by these findings when I first learned of them myself this past summer having always been a 'high protein' advocate as a competitive athlete most of my life and always using a calcium supplement, calcium carbonate, or coral calcium at one point or another.

The Solution:

Take inventory of the amount of protein you are truly consuming on a daily and a weekly basis. You may be surprised just how much protein you are really exposing yourself to.

With that being said,

Cut back a bit on the protein and replace some of that protein with fresh, whole fruits and vegetables. You don't have to go over board. As always, my stance at 1 HealthTip.com is, and always will be, 'everything in moderation.'

Take it easy with all the calcium supplements, coral calcium, calcium carbonate tablets and chewables or eliminate them all together. They are not worth the paper on the label.

As you just read, more calcium is not the answer. Less protein is. And, equally as important to know:

Calcium in pill or tablet form is only about 10% absorbed by the body at best (Physicians Desk Reference) so make sure you're calcium supplement is in water soluble (liquid form) or it wont get into the blood stream or the cells of your body.

Lathe Chuck

The lathe chuck has been an important tool more or less as the antique Egyptians used a simple man-powered lathe to cut designs and forms into wood. Working with the ancient lathes requires two-man task. One person has been engaged in cutting tools to carve or shape the revolving piece of wood. The second person twisted the wood by using a bow and piece of cord or rope to work. Lathe chuck parts have become very dedicated to a variety of wood spinning and also metal functioning tasks and stock. At present, lathes are computer proscribed exactitude machines with limited similarity to most of its early forerunner.

The wood revolving lathe is the spirit of most DIY and profitable woodworking workshops. Lathe machines are accessible in a multiplicity of sizes, from small pen lathes that have a greatest capability of 2? stock to much better lathes than can spin stock as large as 10? or 12?. The massive lathes are used to turn items such as bowls and vases. Wood lathe hurls are obtainable throughout a number of woodworking tool outlets, as well as a great number of online distributors. They offer discounted pricing and speed delivery service for wood lathe chucks. Lathe has been utilized as a woodworking tool almost as long as the knife and the sledge hammer. People have an attraction with wood and the products than can be fashioned with a lathe.

Machining centers get the splendor in most shops. They make the complicated cuts whereas CNC lathes frequently do little more than OD clean-up and facing. It makes the lathe more proficient than the machining core for many difficult jobs. Automotive contractor Hillsdale Tool demonstrates an illustration. Its plant is now using a CNC lathe to machine an element that once obligatory a machining center and a chopper. Generally the manufacturing time are saved to about 30 percent.

The part is lodging for a transaxle oil force gathering. Its most important characteristic is an amalgamation of non-concentric ring-shaped surfaces making up the hollow space of the part. If these surfaces were concentric, they would create a spherical ring between them.Lathe chuck is considered for perpendicular whirling centers in which contaminants hamper procedure dependability. The lathe chuck proffers high securing forces and long jaw stoke up, in a small-summary chuck body. Clamping forces ranges from 95 kN to 330 kN, with jaw strokes ranging from 9 mm to 15 mm per jaw.

Sizes ranging from 165 mm to 500 mm are available. It is highly necessary to protect eye and ear when working in a wood working shop. For the requirement of the parts of wood lathe such as a wood lathe chuck, it is best to contact the manufacturer for the specific brand of wood lathe and find out where the parts are available. Especially while replacing the wood lathe chuck it is needed to ensure the part fits perfectly.

The Secret Revealed. Do You Know The Secret?

Each week in my free weekly e-Newsletter I cover the topics of natural health, nutrition, wellness and anti-aging science. But one of the things that often goes forgotten in the quest to develop a healthy lifestyle so we can look and feel our best is the development of a healthy mind.

What do I mean by a healthy mind?

The development of a healthy mind is one of the most important yet, one of most over looked and misunderstood 'paths' to great health and unlimited wellness. Without a positive and optimistic mind and a belief system that you can actually achieve what it is you are looking to achieve, you are just going through the motions and will not get too far.

And that can be downright frustrating.

Wouldn't you agree?

Whether its your health and wellness goals, your professional goals or the personal goals you would like to achieve, none if it can happen without first developing the proper attitude and the proper mindset, aka: belief system.

Once you get that part right the Law of Attraction kicks in and suddenly and almost miraculously your goals, dreams and aspirations can become almost, well, simple.

"Ok, wait a minute, I thought this was a Natural Health and Longevity e-Newsletter. What the heck is Andrew talking about: "belief systems" and "Laws of Attraction?"

I'm sure glad you asked.

Stay with me now.

I am about to introduce you to an incredible wellness concept that may very well change your life like it has for countless others (including myself) worldwide, providing YOU with unlimited joy, health, money, relationships, love, youth, everything you have ever wanted.

Are you with me now?

I thought so.

Recently I was exposed to the incredibly popular, world renown feature length movie called: 'The Secret.'

Its not a movie like you may be thinking or a major motion picture with famous actors or anything like that.

You may or may not have heard of The Secret. It is now being analyzed on major news TV networks around the world such as CNN, NBC, and Fox News, etc. Larry King (CNN) interviewed the entire cast of The Secret on his TV show, Larry King Live last week.

Nonetheless, experts say The Secret has been "passed throughout the ages, traveling through centuries to reach you, mankind, and humankind."

Here is a brief overview:

"In this astonishing program (The Secret dvd) are ALL the resources you will ever need to understand and live The Secret. For the first time in history, the world's leading scientists, authors, and philosophers will reveal the secret that utterly transformed the lives of every person who ever knew it such as Plato, Newton, Carnegie, Beethoven, Shakespeare, Einstein."

Thats quite a line up.

"The Secret reveals amazing real life stories and testimonials of regular people who have changed their lives in profound ways. By applying The Secret, they present instances of eradicating disease, acquiring massive wealth, overcoming obstacles and achieving what many would regard as impossible."

Pretty powerful stuff to say the least.

Have you ever met anyone who didn't want to eradicate disease, acquire massive wealth, overcome their obstacles AND achieve what many regard as impossible?

If you do, you may want to run the other way.

I won't say anymore. But I will say this.

Keep an open mind. Imagine the possibilities.

I urge you to head over to the official web site of The Secret by clicking on the link below to find out what The Secret may mean for you.

You can watch it right now, real time, online for only $4.95 as opposed to waiting for The Secret DVD to arrive in a week. I don't believe it is sold in stores.

I hope you feel you are worth the investment.

I watched it recently and I have not been the same since. I honestly mean that.

http://www.whatisthesecret.tv

Now YOU will know The Secret. And it could change your life forever.

But only if you let it.

Clear your schedule right away, put some head phones on and watch this dynamic and potentially life changing movie.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) May Be Affecting You

Have you ever noticed that you feel a bit more down in the dumps, on edge, or a bit lazy during the winter months?

Do you get the "Winter Blues?" We all do at times.

A virtually unknown form of winter depression known as Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD), aka: "the Winter Blues," quietly affects millions of people each year between the months of September and April.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is caused by an imbalance in the brain due to the lack of day light hours and sun light associated with winter. We are all exposed to it.

Symptoms include:

- Sleep problems: Usually desire to oversleep and difficulty staying awake but, in some cases, disturbed sleep and early morning wakening

- Lethargy: Feeling of fatigue and inability to carry out normal routine

- Overeating: Craving for carbohydrates and sweet foods, usually resulting in weight gain

- Depression: Feelings of misery, guilt and loss of self-esteem, sometimes hopelessness and despair, sometimes apathy and loss of feelings

- Social problems: Irritability and desire to avoid social contact

- Anxiety: Tension and inability to tolerate stress

- Loss of libido: Decreased interest in sex and physical contact

- Mood changes: In some sufferers, extremes of mood and short periods of hypomania (overactivity) in spring and autumn.

Most seasonal affective disorder sufferers show signs of a weakened immune system during the winter and are more vulnerable to infections and other illnesses as well.

[Reference: The Seasonal Affective Disorder Association]

I think we can all relate to some of the above symptoms.

However,

"If left unchecked, the changes in mood and behavior can become so powerful that they can create significant problems in your life and may manifest into year-round major depression if not addressed," says Norman Resenthal, MD, author of: Winter Blues: Everything You Need to Know to Beat Seasonal Affective Disorder.

The Solution:

Changes in diet, supplementation, and excercise often hold the key (as always) to easing Seasonal Affective Disorder. Start your day with meals high in protein to boost your amino acid intake and boost energy throughout the day. Later in the day and into the evening, consume less protein and more carbohydrates to assist the brain in synthesizing serotonin levels. Serotonin improves mood and helps you sleep better. And make sure you are supplementing your diet with plenty of good, quality nutrients and antioxidants to fight free radicals which reak havoc on the body over time.

You'll also want to add more fish or a fish oil supplement to your diet rich in Omega-3 essential fatty acids. People who experience Seasonal Affective Disorder problems or any type of depression for that matter almost always have low levels of Omega-3 essential fatty acids in their diet.

My top choice and personal favorite is Vital Choice Seafood, the worlds leading source for fresh Wild Alaskan Salmon and organic fish oils rich in essential Omega-3 Fatty Acids.

More information can be found at the '1 Health Tip' Partners page at =>http://www.1healthtip.com/partners.html

Exercising and staying active in the winter is even more important than at any other time of year. Thats right. We are naturally more active and energetic during spring and summer months. Most people stop exercising all together or exercise much less during winter months for some reason.

Do you?

This leads to many of the above symptoms. Stay on an exercise routine and try to get outside whenever possible for a long walk, run or bike ride. You will be amazed at what this can due for your mood AND you will get the much needed light exposure which can alleviate stress - A true win, win scenario.

For some, with Seasonal Affective Disorder, experts recommend Seasonal Affective Disorder Light Therapy or Light Boxes. Personally, I've never heard of this type of treatment until recently but Michael Terman, PhD, and Director of the Center for Light Treatment and Biological Rhythms at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York (yes, there is actually a clinic for this growing problem) recommends using Seasonal Affective Disorder light therapy for 20 minutes a day in extreme cases.

If you do a search at Google for "light therapy" you will notice there are over 10 million web sites offering information on Seasonal Affective Disorder light therapy and light boxes so there is clearly an interest in the topic.

Remember: Consistency with proper diet, supplementation and exercise is critical during winter months and the key to beating the"Winter Blues" and avoiding Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD).

Trans Fats, What You Don't Know May Kill You

I recently attended a 2 day seminar held by the Institute for Integrative Nutrition in New York City. One of the key note speakers was Walter Willet, M.D. - Chairman of the Department of Nutrition at Harvard University. He spoke for 2 hours about a silent killer in the United States that most people don't even know about:

Trans Fat, otherwise known as partially hydrogenated oils or artificial, man made fat.

The trans fat definition is when hydrogen is pumped into vegetable oil - a process called "hydrogenation." This raises the level of L.D.L - bad cholesterol, but it reduces the level of H.D.L - good cholesterol in your body. Trans fats are a metabolic poison and they wipe out the all important Omega-3 Fatty Acids in your body - the essential fats you need for normal body function. They also cause blood clots inside blood vessels in the heart, brain, and throughout the body. Finally, Trans Fats cause inflammation within the body which weakens the immune system over time.

Not a pretty picture.

Trans Fats are found mainly in fried foods, baked goods such as cookies, crackers, cakes, doughnuts, vegetable shortenings, most margarines and a whole host of other foods in these categories. Trans fats have literally snuck there way into our food source over the past decade or so and the damage being done is astounding.

Medical studies now show clear evidence that trans fats contribute to heart disease by boosting the bad cholesterol and cutting off the good cholesterol in the body. They also contribute to Diabetes, Dementia and many other forms of death and disability.

Trans fats are actually illegal in most countries and food manufacturers found using trans fats can actually face prison sentences. True story.

Is it any wonder that heart disease and Diabetes are the leading killers in the United States?

What the heck is going here?

Many food companies argue that trans fats make the food taste better and stay fresher longer.

Yeah, great. Thanks. We really appreciate the trade off.

What about the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) you ask. Don't they protect us?

Not so fast.

Keep in mind, The FDA's job is to insure the success and profitability of the food and drug companies FIRST and to ensure the success of your health SECOND. Don't ever forget that.

Very unfortunate.

The good news is, things are about to change a bit because the health crisis in the United States has spun so far out of control that it is down right frightening.

Since January 2006, the FDA has been forced to require that food manufactures list trans fats content greater than 1/2 a gram per serving on supermarket foods. As a result, many food manufactures have reduced or eliminated trans fats all together. That's very good news, but only a start. We have a long, long way to go.

Restaurants are still not required to make trans fat information known to the public as of yet and obviously Americans are eating out more than ever.

Dr. Willet concludes in his recent best seller: Eat, Drink and Be Healthy- The Harvard Medical School Guide to Healthy Eating, that we are consuming up to one half of our trans fats in restaurants. In one of his studies earlier this year, he found that if trans fats were eliminated from the American diet, some 228,000 heart attacks and 30,000 coronary deaths could be prevented. Eating just 5 grams daily of trans fat increases ones risk of heart disease by 25 percent, the study noted.

The Solution:

Avoid Saturated Fats and Trans Fats (obviously) as much as possible. Read labels very closely. It will actually say: 'Sat. fat' and 'Trans Fat' directly underneath 'Total fat' on all food labels now. This new label only took effect this year. Check it out right now. Grab a box of cereal or a loaf of bread and take a peek.

You also want to avoid anything on a label that says: "partially hydrogenated vegetable oil," or "vegetable shortening" as well. These are phrases used often times in place of trans fats.

Take it easy with the fast foods, fried foods and the pastries. We all know they taste great and should even be enjoyed once in awhile, but "moderation" MUST be exercised here.

Clearly, more care and awareness needs to be exercised by all of us.

Green Tea And The Power Of Green Tea Benefits

Do you drink Green Tea? If you don't, you may in a few minutes.

Are you aware of the many, many benefits of Green Tea?

Green tea contains compounds called polyphenols that contain antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and health enhancing properties. Green Tea is simply the dried leaves of the tea plant. EpigallocatechinGallate (EGCG), the main polyphenol in Green Tea has been proven to penetrate your body's cells and shield DNA from hydrogen peroxide, a dangerous free radical that exists all around us in the toxic world in which we live and in our highly processed and overly polluted food source.

Green Tea also has been proven to protect against cancer, lowers cholesterol levels, AND reduces blood clotting. The benefits of Green Tea are quite dramatic. It is also a weight loss aid that can promote the burning of fat and helps to regulate blood sugar and insulin levels.

That's quite a resume, huh? Pretty powerful stuff.

Green Tea is by far, one of my favorite antioxidant and anti-aging super powers and the benefits of Green Tea tend to go on and on.

My recommendation to you:

Replace your daily coffee regimen with Green Tea instead.

Yikes! I know you didn't see that coming. Sorry.

It will definitely take some getting use to at first, for sure, but what a difference you will notice in the way you look and feel. Chances are you'll even shed a few pounds along the way as well.

Is there anyone uninterested in the benefits of Green Tea?

Note: Make sure your Green Tea is from an organic source and make sure you brew it yourself. It may cost you a bit more but, like anything in life, you get what you pay for. The benefits of Green Tea prepared this way is night and day over the Green Tea bags most people use.

Never cut corners when it comes to your health, your antioxidant regimen, and your anti-aging regimen. Green Tea in the tea bags is ok, but when its not freshly made it loses much of it's potency and, as you read above, you'll definitely want to receive many of those powerful benefits of Green Tea and those super antioxidant benefits.

Don't worry. Its pretty simple.

You can buy a glass tea mug that comes with its own strainer. Just pour some of the fresh Green Tea leaves into the strainer and pour hot water on top, let it sit for a few minutes, and you're in business with a very powerful anti-aging drink AND fat burner.

My favorite Green Tea brand: Rishi Tea - USDA Organic, Japanese Tea. It can be found at any natural health food store and, of course, at Whole Foods Market.

Drink your Green Tea the right way, from the right source and you may never go back to coffee again (Sorry Starbucks). Although, Starbucks does carry a full line of Tazo Tea now. Not a bad solution when you're on the go.

So take the '1 Health Tip' challenge and replace your coffee fix with Green Tea. Try it gradually at first and see how it goes. Never forget about the benefits of Green Tea.

Flu Season Is Here. Heres What You Need To Know.

Just about all of us have experienced some form of pain, fever, chills, fatigue and other flu like symptoms at one point or another. Other wise known as Influenza, better know as "the flu." The flu is highly contagious and I think we are all in agreement that it's NO fun and can sideline you for days.

It can be avoided though.

The 2006 flu season is upon us and the best way to protect your self against the flu is to keep your immune system strong and "in check" all year long, especially now during flu season.

How do you do this?

It all goes back to the basics: getting enough rest, getting enough exercises, and getting the right nutrition.

If any one of the 3 are lacking the other 2 tend to be less effective.

Without enough rest or sleep you are putting large amounts of stress on the body, both mental and physical, which lowers your defense system making you more susceptible to the flu during flu season. Sleep and adequate rest also balances the immune system and keeps it strong.

Regular exercise keeps your immune system operating at peak levels as well. One study suggests that regular exercise can cut in half the number of days a person suffers from colds and the flu. Exercise stimulates the disease-fighting white blood cells in the body to move from the organs into the bloodstream.

Have you ever noticed that people who are in good shape and exercise consistently very rarely, if ever catch a cold or the flu? Look around. This holds true about 99% of the time.

Proper nutrition and getting the right nutrients on a daily basis may be the most important of the 3 and the most over looked. When your body doesn't get enough good, quality, balanced nutrients on a daily basis your immune system comes under attack very quickly and is wide open for viruses such as the flu. Not only can quality nutrition prevent the flu, but it can get rid of it as well during flu season.

Most people wait until they experience the flu to put the above measures in place. Often times it is too late and this is a 'reactive' approach rather than a 'proactive' approach. When you think about it, you should be getting adequate rest, consistent exercise and proper nutrition on a regular basis anyways. The problem is, most people wait until they are sick before they decide its time to lead a healthier lifestyle.

Don't let this happen to you.

Get proper sleep and adequate rest each night, stay consistent with a workout regimen, and get your nutrients and anti-oxidants every day from fresh, whole foods and natural supplements - especially Vitamins A, C, D and E along with the mineral zinc which are the most well known immunity boosters.

Furthermore, an herb called Echinacea is well known for its positive effects on strengthening the immune system and fighting the flu. In addition to a Pharmaceutical Grade and highly absorbable vitamin, mineral and antioxidant blend, I use Echinacea at the first sign of any flu or cold like symptoms that come my way. 9.9 times out of 10 it knocks out any flu or cold like symptoms within the same day and I tend to feel better by the next day without any major down time.

You must find Echinacea in organic, liquid form or in drops for it to be effective though. It needs to be pure and it needs to get into your bloodstream to get the results I mentioned above. I have been fortunate enough to have not experienced the flu in over 5 years now.

Knock on wood.

Take action this 2006 flu season! And stay in action with the above 3 principals to prevent the flu or any sickness for that matter that may come your way.

Axis in context of CNC machining
Posted by Wilbur Corncob: In this blog we will learn about the axes in context of CNC machining. We know from the study of geometry that an axis refers to a line which acts as a reference for defining the position of any point in space. Two axis can define the position of a point in a two dimensional plane while 3 axis are required to define the position of a point in the

Router Bits

Router Bits - Defined as "a cutting bit used in a router", these multi-tasker tools are a very important part of our lives. You may scoff at such a thought, but consider the number of things in our lives that we come into contact with everyday that a router bit has touched... CNC router bits are used for the sign on the front of your workplace and the numbers or name on your mailbox, stile and rail router bits are used to make the windows of your house, and dovetail router bits are used to make your dresser drawers. Router bits have been used in some kind of mechanism used to create a high speed spinning action for many years, but it was only recently that routers and the router bits that are designed to be used with them came together in a marriage that has made this tool combination so useful to the woodworking tools craftsman of today.

Typically made of HSS, or high speed steel, router bits are designed to withstand very high temperatures and still maintain a sharp cutting edge that enables the router bits to glide through the material it's cutting with relative ease. Most routers and the router bits they use have recommended RPM ratings to help insure tool longevity and safety to the user. Carbide tipped router bits have the cutting surface covered with carbide, and some router bits contain no steel at all being made completely of carbide. These carbide router bits are slightly more expensive than the traditional HSS router bits, but offer a longer, sharper tool life and are designed to be used when cutting composite woods such as MDF, plywood, and other manmade materials.

It won't take long to realize that there is no shortage of router bit manufacturers to choose from, so how do you know which one is right for you? Some of the best known names in the industry such as Freud, MLCS, CMT, Amana, and Jesada were put to the test and the results may shock you. In all, 17 different company's router bits were put to the test known as the Router Bit Matchup. When the sawdust had cleared, Whiteside Router Bits emerged the winner proving to stay sharper, longer and producing the fewest imperfections in the material used for the test. For full details on this test, search "Router Bit Matchup, Whiteside" on your search engine.

Whiteside router bits is a small, 30 year old company located in Claremont, North Carolina. Featuring over 300 different styles of router bits in just about any size requirement, Whiteside router bits is a great choice for the beginner hobbyist or the experienced craftsman. Whiteside router bits are made in the USA and offer the perfect tool for any woodworking project you may be working on.

Once you decide to try Whiteside router bits, you will need to find a dealer who carries the Whiteside product line. There are a few local stores who may carry a limited selection of Whiteside router bits, but for the best selection and pricing, the Internet is the best place to shop for your router bits.

Woodshed Tools, Inc is proud to offer Whiteside Router Bits. We offer secure purchasing, great customer service, and the small company attention for your big company needs. 3 Tips for lowering your company's monthly trash disposal cost

Most companies view trash disposal as a necessary evil. Few companies have someone in charge of managing waste material cost. Sometimes the accountant or purchasing manager put their current program out for competitive bid to area waste hauling vendors. A few other companies may actually use their own trucks to haul the trash to the landfill.

What typically happens is the company calls local trash disposal companies or the city sanitation department to order a dumpster for trash service. What they don't realize is that significant savings (10-25%) may be achieved with the right service for their type of waste material, volume, and available service.

I have listed some general guidelines for managing trash service.

1. Only sign a service agreement that is longer than month to month if special equipment is needed or savings may be achieved.

2. Take out any automatic contract extensions, roll over or evergreen clauses.

3. Review your service periodically to make sure you have adequate service for the least amount of cost.

Any of these cost savings tips should help you lower your monthly trash bill. Don't expect your trash vendor to point out the most cost effective program for you. Waste vendor sales representatives typically earn bonuses based on the revenue they bring in.

If you have questions contact an experienced Waste Disposal Consultant that has several years experience in the waste/recycle industry. Many offer programs that assist you with the design of savings alternatives for a small flat fee or a percentage of the actual savings.
